Volunteer Coordination

Volunteer Coordination at Kotera's Closet is about so much more than filling slots on a schedule. It is our way of inviting neighbors across Grandview and the Kansas City metro into the story of how we care for one another.

Through intentional volunteer recruitment, we seek out people who feel called to serve - students needing service hours, retirees with time and wisdom to share, working professionals looking for meaningful ways to give back, and families who want to volunteer together. We take time to explain our mission, listen to each person's strengths, and match them with roles that fit - from sorting donations and packing clothing orders to welcoming families at community clothing fairs or helping at holiday events.

Once volunteers join us, we are committed to volunteer recognition that is heartfelt and specific. We do not simply say thank you; we share the difference their time has made. That might mean highlighting a volunteer's story at a gathering, sending personal notes after a busy season, or recognizing long-term service during our volunteer appreciation events.

Our coordination efforts also include clear communication, flexible scheduling, and opportunities to grow - whether someone wants a one-time project or an ongoing leadership role. Volunteers are invited into planning conversations, asked for feedback, and shown how their hours connect directly to clothing on hangers, scholarships awarded, and special needs families supported.

By treating volunteers as partners, not just helpers, our Volunteer Coordination program builds a strong, reliable team that families, donors, and community partners can trust. Together, we turn individual willingness into collective impact for our neighbors in need.
